Massage and bodywork can contribute to health and well being in a variety of ways.

Some of the benefits people experience with massage include increased relaxation, pain relief, stress relief, decrease in muscle tension, increased range of motion, better circulation of blood and lymph, improves sleep. Massage can also be a great way to increase a sense of awareness and connection to one’s own body, and to experience touch in a really structured and boundaried way. One massage, or massages once in a while are great for relaxation, stress relief, and relief from specific muscle tension. Massages on a regular basis can be a form of proactive self-care, and allow the benefits of each session to build upon each other.

Swedish Massage

30 - 120 Minutes • STARTING AT $30

I use lighter pressure gliding, kneading, and tapping to promote relaxation, stress relief, and circulation in the client’s body. This is great if relaxation and stress relief are the main objectives, and also if deeper pressure doesn’t feel good to the client, or if a medical condition prevents deeper pressure from being safe. I use oil or lotion on the client’s skin to reduce friction. Usually, clients either undress fully, or keep underpants on, but can keep as much clothing on as they feel most comfortable, and I will use slightly different techniques to work through clothing. The client will be under a sheet and blanket, lying on a flat massage table, and I will uncover only the part of the body I am working on at the time.

Deep Tissue Massage

30 - 120 Minutes • STARTING AT $30

I use some of the Swedish techniques (gliding, kneading, and tapping) for warming up muscles and fascia, and focus on deeper work in order to relieve muscle tension and pain. Clients also often experience deep relaxation during or after sessions. When useful, I may include stretching and trigger point work, working with tight areas within a muscle that refer pain to another area of the body. During the massage, I may ask clients to breathe deeply during trigger point work, and ask them to let me know when a trigger point is referring pain to another area, and how much pain they are experiencing.

While parts of a deep tissue massage can be painful, the experience differs a lot from client to client, and often, really effective work can be done without causing pain.  I generally use oil or lotion on the client’s skin to reduce friction.

Prenatal Massage

30 - 120 Minutes • STARTING AT $30

I use Swedish and/or deep tissue massage techniques in a way that is safe for clients who are in their second and third trimester of pregnancy. Massage can be a great part of prenatal care, allowing the client to relax and providing some relief from tension and aches associated with pregnancy. Most work is done with the client lying on their side to minimize pressure on the client’s abdomen.

I received my pre-natal massage certification in Fall of 2017.

Chair Massage

10 minute minimum • $1 per minute

Chair massage takes place with the client sitting in a chair specifically designed for massage. It works well for shorter massages, usually from 10-30 minutes in length. In the chair, I can usually work on shoulders, back, head, neck, arms, and some hip work. It does not allow for work on the legs or front of body.

The client is fully clothed, though work will be more effective with thinner clothing (rather than a thick jacket or coat). This is also a good option for clients who are not able to lie on the massage table. Chair massage can be included easily at events because they can be short in length so many people can get a massage in a couple hours. And, they don’t take up much room, and do not require clients to get undressed.
